NMHIC in Tucson, Arizona: VR Healthcare Symposium

Matt Vogl and Debbie Boeldt recently attended the 3rd Annual VR and Healthcare Symposium in Tucson, AZ. The conference brings together leaders in virtual reality (VR) in healthcare. It was an exciting opportunity to hear about new and innovative ways that VR is being applied in medical settings.

Matt and Debbie had the opportunity to speak in a special forum focused on behavioral health and wellness. Matt highlighted the exciting work in the Tech Innovation Network (TIN) — a model that helps address a gap between the technology industry and mental health. He described the process of including community partners in the development of technology. Debbie then presented on a TIN project that brought VR into the department of corrections. She discussed lessons learned in implementing VR in the Anchorage Correctional Complex and the impact of VR on inmates. The opportunity led to an exciting discussion about technology and how to harness it to improve mental health.
